Roguemonkey.org centers around out author Wojtek who fills his blogs with information from entertainment news, links, sci-fi and the odd humour post. Did I also mention that’s he a keen football supporter too? Just reading the first few entries its quite evident out man like his game of football, and by his light-hearted, almost comical way of putting this across, you don’t have to like football to like Roguemonkey.org.

The posts are all top-notch reading, as mentioned above they cover a broad area of topics, which I believe helps avoid the blog become stale and one-dimensional. I think some of the topics are terrific, for example we’re given a Book Review of Desperation by Stephen King, which is kind of in the form of a brief book report, as well as more technical issues such as ISBN number (in case your thinking of buying it). I have to say I enjoyed reading through a lot, if not all, of the site.

The design is very well done, not over the top, but simple blogging with a menu on the right hand side. Colours all work well and the site doesn’t have that cluttered feelings that most blogs have. The large bolded heading also help break up the blog, they stand out and usually descriptive enough to give you some idea about what the post is about.

One thing I was really impressed with was the way all the post are categorized by subject, for example footie, links, sci-fi and so forth. This meant you also had the option of sorting the site by subject, a nice, useful feature. Archive, comments and links are we’re within mouse point reach.

All up Roguemonkey.org did enough to impress me to want to come back, its clean, its readable and most importantly, its just plain good. I give Roguemonkey.org two thumbs up and a 4 out of 5 and urge you all to have a look.

The color brown washes over you when you enter the Boston Dyke Log. The traditionally blue links, and there are many, vibrate jarringly against the brown. The blog itself is easy-to-read black Times Roman.

The author, Gina A. Pond, describes herself as a Wiccan priest and biochemist, a single, left-of-democrat, feminist lesbian who dreams of living on an island with her coven. She uses her site to “think aloud” about political and spiritual issues, as well as lighter parts of her life. Two recent multi-paragraph postings concern the spread of AIDS in China and thoughtful musings on whether feminism is a sisterhood. An older post describes the awkward situation of being proselytized to by a relative when you have no interest in Christianity. Pond’s target audience would include feminists, lesbians, and believers in alternative spirituality, especially those who like to think aloud about the issues they confront.

The writing is clear and thoughtful. It reads as if some entries are carefully thought out and polished, while others are enthusiastically and quickly blogged. The design and content go together all right if you don’t mind lots of brown, but the archive pages are not linked to the design elements, so they don’t match the current blog page. Other than that, everything works.

One major bonus is a page of links to Pond’s stories, essays, and poems. If you like her style, you’ll enjoy reading these bold and sometimes erotic pieces. To me, though, the weblog is the most interesting part because it’s the most current.

Feminists, lesbians, and other offbeat women with an interest in activism, politics, or spiritual exploration will enjoy this site.

First let me start by saying that any website that has a Buffy quote as a tagline is aces in my book.

I liked the way this blog is designed. A nice simple color scheme, a nice clean blog space, and good organization. Kimberly has a nice grasp on web design and did a great job with her blog.

Having said that, I had hoped the content would be a bit more than it was. Her links to the “contact me” and “about me” page were blank, and the only way I found out about her was to click into her business page and click on the “about me” page listed there. Hopefully she’ll update that soon for those who only visit her blog.

As for the blog itself, her entries consist of a lot of links to other sites, but she also has some nice personal posts among those. From a look at her archives she’s only been blogging since July 10, but according to her very first post it sounds as though she’s done it before. So while content is short as of now, I hope that in the future there will be a lot more there.

For now I took off points for missing pages and lack of content, but I easily see erraticfrog’s rating going up once Kimberly reestablishes her website and continues to post.erraticfrog

When I first arrived at Smothering Chaos I kind of liked the simple green layout and the white lettering. I would come to find out that is about all I would like about Smothering Chaos.

The blog hasn’t been updated since the middle of July. Before that the author seems to be on a once a month posting schedule. Most of the posts are about random thoughts and reactions to current events. I was able to find the author’s main page using the “scroll the mouse pointer all over the page looking for a link” method. When I got to the main page I used the same search method and was able to find out the authors name and where he is from. I found some pictures too. But that took forever to find.

There is a guestbook, but thats the only easy thing there is to find. This is easily one of the most confusing designs I’ve ever seen.

All in all, my time spent at Smothering Chaos was nothing short of frustrating. The posts are few and far between, the whole site is confusing, just not a user friend site at all. Smothering Chaos is best viewed in Internet Explorer. I advice you not view at all. Half a star, check it out if you are bored. Smothering Chaos

I was confused. Earth Info was listed as a personal weblog, so I was hoping to find that kind of a special touch that gives personal weblogs the appeal to keep visitors coming back after making a connection with the author. This was not a personal weblog, so I switched the category over to News/Links, where it fits in much more appropriately.

The entries on this weblog revolve strictly around links from other sites. They’re mostly news related sites closely tied in with the current events taking place in the UK, since this is where Matt, the author of Earth Info, is from. Sometimes, the site is updated every two minutes for 10 or 15 minutes straight.

There’s not a lot to critique at this weblog. Quite simply, there’s not a lot to it. Each weblog entry contains links, and there’s a slew of links listed down the left hand side of the website. The weblog’s only been up and running since Nov 3, so I’m sure it has a lot of growing to do.

In the midst of that growing, I hope to see a different site design. It’s another one of those standard Blogger templates, but the color is slightly altered. It’s altered enough to make my eyes hurt. The blue hyperlinks placed on the bright orange background really work a number over while trying to read the rest of the site.

I couldn’t personally find anything special about this site, or anything that would make me want to come back time and time again. Perhaps people interested in the news in the UK would find this site more interesting.
