The layout was simple yet and effective way of displaying the information he had to offer,he explains his choice of design as “An attempt at getting back to the old school web.”

However simple his desgin maybe , his does not mean his thoughts ideas and ramblings are simple,

each entry gives the impression it has been thought out and carefully sculpted into a thought provoking piece of writing, the author does well to capture his target audience, (although I’m younger, I still found it thought provoking but perhaps not in the way its intended.)

Overall an excellent insight into another persons llife .

Calvin’s Corner is contributed to by a couple of people, although if you want to know more about the authors, you’re out of luck.

This site feels half finished, half designed. What should be links (judging by their appearance) often aren’t, and the site lacks a heading of any sort, as well as more content (an about section would be useful as there are several posters).

I think that there is an explanation for all of this. There’s no “About” section because the primary audience already knows all about the writers. Or at least that’s the impression you get reading through the posts.

There’s not much here to recommend to the casual surfer, but I’m sure the regular visitors to the site won’t mind.Calvins Corner

Honest truth: I spent over an hour going through this site. What? I don’t spend an hour on all the sites? Probably not. But this one got my time, which I didn’t realize had passed so quickly.

The first page of the weblog is all of Sneaker’s weblogs on one page. It is ust an entry here or an entry there. The most recent is what is on this page. Of course, I read that entire page.

So I started down the links on the left of the site. About the site and about sneaker were both excellent reads. Of course, they have a one time only readability, as they aren’t really the weblog. The about sneaker is really good, and you get a feel for who he is. (To quote him, “Yes sneaker is a person”)

I get to the writings section and we of course are now at the weblog itself. All the entries one could imagine. Sneaker stated that it used to be a very personal site. But that created conflict with business. After all who is the judge of personal vs. professional if it is on the internet? So then there is this version. He doesn’t write about stupid boring stuff that most personal weblogs have. Instead he writes about things to make us think. His post on “Does the internet make us narrow minded” “The Grass is always greener” and “Solving problems” are all great entries. They all made me think about things relative to me.

Of course there is also his quote weblog that I found to be very funny. Some of the quotes could be used in everyday life, most however would be good for when you are just sitting around with friends telling jokes.

On the design part of the site, it is really good. Little explanations for each of the links is really nice. Two minor things that I didn’t like, but the rest of the site made up for. 1. Splash page! I know, he is using shtml so he has to have an auto refresh page, but just do it. Don’t make it a splash page. 2. Because of all of the includes some of the pages are slow to load up. Of course this could also be because he writes so much and the entries are just big.

The site was completely original in my opinion. The author took an approach I have not seen before in weblogs: to make you think. Go read this site, as it deserves to be read by everyone.

This site is just like most weblogs. Info into the person’s life, links here and there. The site is called in white now and uses only black and white and gray. No coloration.

I like the design of the site. It is elegant and easy to view. The side bar with her comments is original. She likes to talk about herself in the third person.

She enacted a comment system, but unfortunately I couldn’t understand the posts as they were in a different language.

One nice feature is the ability to get notified when the site gets updated. Just fill out a little form and then you get notified. She does this, as she doesn’t know how often her site will be updated now that she has moved.

The design at Mental Masturbation was somewhat trite, but clean and interesting. Everything worked, which is a plus, and the site was quite easy to navigate.

The writing was impressive. Interesting commentary peppered with nifty links: everything a growing blog reader needs.

A lot of blogs tend to focus heavily on their friends as an audience, and if this is their intention, more power to them. This site does lean a bit toward that direction, but what struck me is how the author can be so personal, yet simultaneously inviting.

I definitely enjoyed by time at Mental Masturbation, and I intend to return quite regularly. I humbly suggest the same to others, as it’s a fine use of time.
