The Weblog Review

The title of this blog brought a smile to my face. “Imdateless.com”. Doesn’t that just make you smile and think, “Wow, here comes another blog that might be absolutely funny and entertaining.” But this is not an absolute decision. Therefore, I kept my fingers crossed.

The layout wasn’t something that I particularly liked but I just loved the icon that the blog had. It was a stick-figure boy (or is it girl?) and it moves around as you move your mouse. Well, that was quite amusing.

Entry-wise, I was amazed and was quite teary-eyed after reading all the funny works of literature our dear author has written. It turned out to be a great blog with funny little news about our dear author. I’d have to say that some topics were random and I got lost reading through the pile a few times, but it was well worth it.

Overall, I loved it! I’m sure you all would too. Don’t let the title and the url intimidate you into not going because then you wouldn’t know what you’re missing. Or maybe you will since I just told all of you that wouldn’t know what you’d be missing. Ah, that was quite confusing. So, go visit the blog.The Imdateless.Com Website

I read the title and I thought, “What is that supposed to mean?” I then entered the portal of Rakshasas’ blog and I was quite impressed.

One can say what the blog is about in one word: chess. Yes, chess. At first, I skimmed through the first few entries to make sure that what I was reading was about chess. Yes, it was. Anything and everything about said subject can be found here. Maybe not but there is a lot of topics here – a great variety of them – that involves chess one way or another.

I wasn’t really impressed with the layout though. It was a little too simple and is really quite plain. But if you’re really into chess, then you won’t mind the layout. It’s the entries that you are after, right?

Overall, I liked this blog. I’m not a big fan of chess. In fact, I rarely play it. But one can learn a lot from this blog and I recommend everyone to at least come visit to get some enlightenment on the game. And if you’re a big fan of chess, then this is the place to go to read some news, techniques and just have some entertainment about what you know best. Rakshasas – King Patzer!

If there ever was a reason that conspiracy theorists love the Internet, this site is one of them.

Adam Desmond and Tim Jordan are the authors of this blog. Here is what the blog’s subtitle is (mispellings belong to them, not me): “News items and pictures that relate to prophecy being fuffiled today! relating to end of days, prophecy, the return of Jesus Christ, pre-trib rapture, armegeddon, 666, the beast, babylon etc. Prophecy is being fufilled today.”

I honestly don’t have anything more to add to their own words. (My jaw is still on the ground, gaping open.)

Okay, so I don’t buy into anything they are saying, can we all agree that I don’t agree? Yes? Good. Let’s look at the site itself for a review.

It’s black (fitting) and uses lots of pictures that the authors have found from around the world trying to prove their theory/theories. The thing is, the photos make their sidebar all wonky, meaning you have to scroll all the way to the end of the posts on the left before you can see the sidebar on the right. A bit annoying to say the least.

And then there is the dating of their posts.

I can’t really tell if they haven’t figured out the Gregorian calendar or if they are just using the wrong dates on purpose as further signs that the end is near, but each and every post is just wildly mis-dated. For example, this post about EU Document #666 is dated December 31, 2006. Others have 2001 dates, it’s just confusing as all get out.

As far as conspiracy theories go, this one isn’t new and I’m sure there are hundreds of thousands of more blogs on this very topic out there. I just hope they are better organized and more aesthetically pleasing.
Signs of the times

The first thought when I got to this site was Wow! What a great, simple, unique layout.

This blog is made by Alvin Woon, a university senior in computer science, which explains his innovative use of the latest technology in his blog. He updates every few days, and his posts vary from gushing about his friends and girlfriend (loved your Valentine’s Day gift to her by the way), a few tidbits about what’s going on in his life and a sprinkling of computer technology related news. He obviously spends a lot of time writing his posts, because they are usually long (but not too long so they are boring), detailed and acompanied by pictures and illustrations. He is also obviously smart but then again, which computer science student isn’t?

The design is what I like the most about this blog. It is minimalistic but very functional. It is a typical two column layout with a not-so-typical flash header image which changes seamlessly every 30 seconds or so to another image. One column has his blog and the other column only has a little about him, recent posts and links to a flash book and photodock. The flash book is amazing. It is a mini autobiography and very well illustrated.

Like I said before, the thing I like the most about this blog is the design and nifty use of technology. The thing I would improve upon is a little more content for the visitors, perhaps a “this is how I did that” section. Overall, I loved this blog. The posts are witty, the blog is well designed and informative. You should definitely check this blog out even just to see how nicely it is designed and to read a few of the entries. Daily Misery

After reading the name of the blog, clicking the link and having the basic blogger template show up I had no idea what this blog was going to be about, once the page loaded and I saw the blurb “Tracking the trials and tribulations of yet another average chess fanatic trying to pull himself out of the ranks of patzer.” I have to admit, I did wince.

I’m not a chess person. In the least. So whatever the author is talking about in his new blog, the blog was only started on January 2005, I just didn’t understand or want to understand.

His initial reason for setting up the blog is basically so that he can track his own progress as he wants to get better at playing chess and move up in the local competition. His links in his blog work to other sites that he quotes or uses as reference, there isn’t much clutter, but then, as I said, it is a newish blog so I’m sure that it will develop.

But to give credit, the author does explain various tactical thoughts about chess, he has links to various other sites that are about chess and if you are into chess, then I believe you would get something out of this blog. Which is basically the reason why I gave it a .5, I believe that this blog is geared towards people who have chess as a hobby or are fanatical about it.

I, unfortunately, am not.
