Some of you are asking yourself how do the writers review a site? What do they look for in a site? What differentiates a 5.0 weblog from the rest? All these
questions and more have answers below.
The first thing that we look at is the overall look of the site. This doesn't always play into the ranking (as this is the weblog review and not the site design review), but sometimes it does. Does the site look good? Is it easy on the eyes? Do the colors work well with each other? The site has to have a flow to it. Having different looking pages for each page is a bad thing.
The next thing that we look at is the actual weblog. Here we read, and read, and read until we can't read anymore. Sometimes all we can read of the site is the first page. Sometimes we go all the way back to the very first post. It all depends on what you are writing about, how it is written, and what is your goal in writing your weblog. This is where about 80-90% if not more of the ranking and deciding if we like the site.
Finally the last thing is the other stuff. This can be anything from links to fan picks to mp3 of the day. It doesn't matter. Do you need these to have a 5.0 site? No. What we look for in these is that they fit the weblog. Don't go posting AIM pranks when your weblog is about flowers. It doesn't work.
So what makes a site a get over that little hump and get the ranking of a 5.0 site? There isn't one specific thing that sets it apart. The site is just a 5.0 site. It is original, it has all three of the things we look for, it excels above and beyond all the other sites. These sites are different. They look the part because they are the part. If you want to see what it is they got, just do an search for 5.0 sites and look at them.
One thing that you do have to keep in mind is that these are opinion based. If you get a bad review or a good review, it is all the same. It is just one persons (maybe more) opinion of your site. Remember that the goal of this site, is to get other sites noticed. And if you don't like a review that was done on your site, you can apply to be a writer and prove that person wrong.
